Ffestiniog Railway

The Ffestiniog Railway, known in Welsh as Rheilffordd Ffestiniog, is a notable heritage line in Gwynedd, Wales. This narrow-gauge railway, measuring 1 ft 11+1⁄2 inches wide, stretches approximately 13 and a half miles from Porthmadog harbour to the former slate mining centre of Blaenau Ffestiniog, winding through scenic mountainous and wooded landscapes within the Snowdonia National Park. Its route includes a unique section along the Cob embankment near Porthmadog.

The Ffestiniog Railway Company, responsible for this unique attraction, holds the distinction of being the world's oldest operational railway company. It also manages the Welsh Highland Railway, with which it shares track gauge and a junction at Porthmadog. Occasionally, trains undertake the full journey over the combined route, extending to Caernarfon.
