Ffestiniog Railway

The Ffestiniog Railway, a significant heritage attraction in Gwynedd, Wales, offers a journey through dramatic mountain and forest landscapes. This narrow-gauge line spans approximately 13 and a half miles, connecting the harbour town of Porthmadog with the historic slate mining centre of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Much of its route lies within the stunning surroundings of the Snowdonia National Park.

This unique railway holds a special place in history as the Ffestiniog Railway Company is recognized as the world's oldest surviving railway company. The line itself is single track, featuring passing places to allow for the movement of trains. A notable feature is the opening mile out of Porthmadog, which runs along an embankment known as the Cob, a key part of the Traeth Mawr polder. The company also operates the Welsh Highland Railway, with which it shares track gauge and a junction at Porthmadog.
