The Chair

Aintree This is the original chair after which The Chair fence got its name. It stood on this concrete plinth on the side of the fence until 1994 when for safety reasons it was replaced by a plastic replica. Until the end of the last century The Chair housed the Distance Judge, a course official who helped the Judge at the winning line decide the distances between placed horses.
