Jonathan Otley's Steps He lived and worked in rooms up t'steps between 1797 and 1853 He repaired clocks, wrote guide books and researched into the meteorology, mineralogy, topography and the botany of the Lake District. He was the first person to decipher and describe the geological suture of the District and became knows as "the father of Lake District geology"
