"The Power-Looms Riot. On 25 April 1826, people who feared that power-looms would take away their jobs attacked this building. Then the woollen mill of W. & R. Turner. Armed with hammers, ratchets, picks and likes. They destroyed 106 looms. A man and a woman were transported to Australia for their part in the riot. Placed here by Airtours 1995."
