The Chatterton Fight. On this site 26 April 1826 Handloom weavers engaged in destroying the power looms in Thomas Aitken's mill were fired on by soldiers of the 60th Foot. Four men and one woman were killed. A fifth man, an onlooker, was also later shot dead.
