A large house, later known as Old Hall Place once stood on this site. It had been demonlished by 1773 and only the piers, gate and garden wall remain. The house was owned by the Wye family in the 16th century and later by the Pulleyn family. After Robert Pulleyn died in 1748 the bell founder Joseph Eyre discovered an elaborate 12th century casket in the house. This is known as the St Neots Chasse and is the earliest surviving limoges casket showing the martyrdom of Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury. The Chasse is now held in the V&A Museum in London.
