Choir - The Choir was an area furnished with stalls where the religious community gathered for services. These were recited or chanted throughout the day. The Abbey of St. Mary was founded for Augustinian canons in around 1124 and closed by Henry VIII in 1538. Although by 1600 most of the building had been dismantled some parts survive today both above and below ground. The name 'Abbey Fields' reminds us of the Abbey that once stood here.
