William Alexander

William Alexander, the first Earl of Stirling, was a Scottish figure of the early 17th century, known for his roles as a courtier and a writer. He played a part in attempts to establish Scottish settlements in North America, with involvement in the colonisation of Charles Fort, later known as Port-Royal in Nova Scotia, and a settlement on Long Island in New York. Alexander was also a published poet whose works included Aurora, The Monarchick Tragedies, and Doomes-Day. He died in 1640.
