Opened in 1930 it replaced the Model Parish School of 1865. the School played an important part in educational research and the training of teachers, and local pupils were educated here until the school closed in 1968. The building was renamed Thomson's Land in 1995 in memory Professor Sir Godfrey Thomson, who was Principal of Moray House during the greater part of the school's life.
