Wawrzyniec Jerzy Żuławski, known affectionately as Wawa, was a remarkable Polish figure whose life encompassed mountaineering, education, and music. He played a pivotal role in developing Polish alpinism, establishing himself as a leading figure in the field. During World War II, his commitment extended to service as a soldier in the Home Army and participation in the Warsaw Uprising.

Beyond his mountaineering achievements, Żuławski was also an educator and a respected composer and musicologist. He held a professorship at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw and contributed music reviews to several publications. His compositions spanned orchestral, chamber, piano, and vocal works. Wawrzyniec Żuławski's life came to a close in 1957 while undertaking a rescue mission in the Alps.
