NEUADD YR DREF tua1770. Mae 'Tŷ Cyngor' wedi sefyll yma ers 1556. Yn 1624 codwyd Neuadd Y Dref newydd o ffrâm bren gan John Abel o Henffordd. Adeiladwyd yr adeilad presennol yn 1770. Yn wreiddiol yna farchnad agored arcêd ar y llawr gwaelod ynghyd â siambr gyngor a oedd hefyd yn rhoi ile i lys uwchben, yn ogystal ag ystafelloedd i'r uchel rheithgor a lle i gadw dogfennau. Cyn 1805 cadwyd arfau ac offer ar gyfer y milisia yn yr atig. Atgyweiriwyd yr adeilad yn 1888. Llenwyd yr arcedau â gwaith bric ac ychwanegwyd siambr gyngor newydd a pharlwr i'r maer. Codwyd y to â rhoddwyd ystafell ymgynnull ar y llawr uchaf a oedd hefyd yn medru cael ei ddefnyddio fel theatr. Mae'r adeilad yma hyd heddiw yn aros fel canolbwynt i falchder sifil Aberhonddu. THE GUILDHALL c1770. A 'Council House' has existed on this site since 1556. In 1624 a replacement timber framed Guildhall was designed and built by John Abel of Hereford. This was again replaced by the present building in 1770 and originally accommodated an open arcaded market on the ground floor, a council chamber which also served as a court room above, along with rooms for the grand jury and storage of documents. The attics held Militia stores prior to 1805. In 1888 the building was refurbished - the arcades were filled in with brickwork and a new council chamber and mayor's parlour provided on the ground floor. The roof was raised and the entire upper floor became an assembly room which also served as a theatre. This is how the building remains today as the focus of Brecon's Civic Pride.
