Jurong, situated at the south-western tip of Singapore, is a significant area encompassing several planning zones. Its boundaries extend to include adjacent planning areas and offshore islands such as Pulau Damar Laut and Jurong Island. The coastline faces the Selat Jurong strait, while Jurong Island looks out onto the Selat Pandan.

Developed and industrialised from the late 1960s, Jurong played a crucial role in Singapore's post-independence economic expansion. This large-scale industrialisation was a first for the nation at that time. Today, Jurong stands as one of Singapore's most densely populated industrial hubs, and since the year 2000, it has been planned as a second central business district through the Jurong Lake District initiative.
