Jock Hutchinson 1884-1977. USPGA Champion 1920, Open Champion 1921, US Seniors Open Champion 1937. John Waters 'Josh' Hutchinson was born here on 6th June 1884. He defeated J Douglas Elder in the final of the USPGA Championship (at that time matchplay) at Flossmoor, Illinois in 1920. The following year he became the first American citizen to win The Open Championship after a play-off with Roger Wethered over the Old Course, St Andrews. Jock Hutchinson was Honorary Vice-President of the St Andrews Golf Club from 1936 to 1977. Erected by the St. Andrews Preservation Trust Gordon Christie Bequest.
