Willie Auchterlonie, 1872-1963 Laurie Auchterlonie, 1904-1987 Willie and Laurie, father and son, lived and worked here from 1946. Willie was a fine clubmaker and golfer, who won the Open Championship at Prestwick in 1893. From 1935 until his death in 1963 he was honorary professional at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. This splendid service at the R and A was extended for fifty-two years by Laurie, who was himself a very famous clubmaker, until his death in August 1987.
