King Richard III of England

Richard III, the final monarch of the Plantagenet line and its Yorkist branch, reigned as King of England for a brief period before his demise. His passing in 1485 signified a turning point, often considered the close of England's medieval era.

His earlier life saw him appointed Duke of Gloucester and actively involved in the complex conflicts of the Wars of the Roses. He also played a part in governing northern England and in military campaigns. Following his brother Edward IV's death, Richard initially served as Lord Protector for the young heir. However, circumstances changed, leading to the declaration of the young king's illegitimacy and Richard's own subsequent proclamation and coronation as king in 1483.
