Lester Pighutt (bn 5/11/35) was regarded as the best flat jockey of his generation with 4493 wins in a career that lasted from 1948-1985. During a family holiday in Sandown in the summer of 1940, a young Lester won then Sandown Donkey Derby sponsored by Strollers, experts believe that this success kick started his brilliant career.
