Fort Hamilton War Memorial

A key figure in the formation of the United States, Alexander Hamilton is remembered as the nation's first Secretary of the Treasury. He established America's first political party and played a pivotal role in crafting the U.S. Constitution. Despite his challenging beginnings, born out of wedlock on the island of Nevis and orphaned young, Hamilton's intellect shone through. He pursued his education in New York City, becoming a prolific writer and supporter of the American Revolution.

During the war, he served as an artillery officer and later as aide-de-camp to George Washington. Hamilton's post-war contributions included leading significant conventions aimed at strengthening the government and authoring a substantial portion of The Federalist Papers, essential in the ratification of the Constitution and continuing to inform its interpretation.
