This plaque commemorates the naming of the Ayrton Berth by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas, on 26 September 2021, with Noble Caledonia's 'Island Sky' alongside. The berth has been named to mark the achievements of Hertha Marks Ayrton. The celebrated engineer, mathematician, physicist and suffragette was born in Portsmouth in 1854. She was awarded the Hughes Medal by the Royal Society for her work on electric arcs and ripple marks in sand and water
