A Dominican convent occupied the site of this Circus A.D. 1259. In 1539 it was granted to John Lord Russell who converted it into Bedford House where in 1644 was born Princess Henrietta, daughter of King Charles I. In 1773 it was removed and the erection of the present circus commenced.
