Norman Castle, Stockport

Castle Yard. Site of Norman Castle first mentioned during the rebellion against Henry II in 1173. Mound levelled in 1770 for town's first water-powered muslin mill which was demolished mid-nineteenth century for a cattle market and extension to the market place.
