Lance Corporal Joseph Tombs VC 1888 - 1966 Attended this school in the early 1900s He was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous gallantry on 16 May 1915 on his own initiative he crawled 100 yards under heavy shell and machine-gun fire to rescue four wounded men.
