This plaque is a tribute to the memory of Jeanie Donnan, The Galloway Poetess, who lived here. Born at Gatehouse of Fleet 19th November 1866, she died here 14th May 1942. Erected by public subscription which was sponsored by J Kevan McDowall, president of the Galloway Association of Glasgow and John F Brown MBE of the Galloway Gazette, who was the first publisher of the poetess.
