James Duncan Foster

Photograph at the James Duncan Foster brown plaque

By this plaque the Emsworth Maritime and Historical Trust commemorates James Duncan Foster (1858-1940). A notable Emsworth shipbuilder and shipowner. His best known ship was the Emsworth built 'Echo', shown at the head of this plaque and in model form in Emsworth Museum. With her length overall of 110 feet she is said to have been the largest sailing vessel ever built in England. E.M. & H.T., 1996
