Edward I and his much loved Princess, Eleanor of Castile, enjoyed their young days with his parents, King Henry III and Queen Eleanor of Provence in Guildford Castle. This sundial was presented to the people of Guildford by the Prudential Assurance Company Ltd. and the Borough Council in 1972. Forged in aluminium at the Quinnel Forge, Leatherhead, it was concieved and designed by Ann Garland (1912 - 1979) in whose memory this plaque was erected by the foregoing, by the Guildford Society and by her family
