DEVIL'S HOLE LOCK Devil's Hole is the old course of the River Lox below the lock, bypassed when the canal builders straightened the river to avoid the expense of an aqueduct. In 1942 the lock chamber was partially demolished by the Canadian Army engineers practising for the raid on Dieppe. Canal Trust volunteers restored the lock and official reopening was in 2010, after the new Loxwood Bridge allowed boats to pass under Loxwood High Street.
