East Gate, Chichester

The East Gate. 1800 years ago the Romans built a wall with four gateways around the market town Noviomanus Reginorum (Chichester). This is the site of the east gate, which stood until 1783. In the final years before it's demolition the gatehouse served as Chichester's first jail.
