Gracie Fields 1898 - 1979 Rochdale Town Hall Rochdale-born and internationally known actress and singer, Gracie Fields, was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Rochdale here in 1937. The Town Hall balcony was the focal point of Gracie's many return visits home to Rochdale, where she addressed the crowds below. She last visited Rochdale Town Hall in 1978.
