Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen

Photograph at the Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen white plaque

Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen 1848-1899 This arch, designed and produced in 2007 by Fire and Iron Gallery in Leatherhead, is a tribute to Grant Allen, one of Dorking's former residents. Allen was a prolific writer on philosophy, science, anthropology and the natural world. He also published about 30 novels, some of which were best sellers. A follower of the theories of Charles Darwin, Grant was influenced by the natural world around him. The arch illustrates local landmarks, flora and fauna about which he was so passionate. It is made from mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and flint.
