Celestine Edwards

Celestine Edwards (?1858-1894) born in Dominica. Said to be Britain's first black newspaper editor. He was a preacher, and tireless anti-racist and anti-imperialist activist. He resided in Sunderland briefly and lectured in the Assembly Hall which once stood here.
