Brushed metal plaque № 59717

On this site stood the North-East gate of Roman Corinium where the Fosseway from Lincoln and Akeman Street from Verulamium (St. Albans) entered the town. Excavations in 1960 revealed a gate 30m wide, with flanking towers and a dual-carriage-way of cobbled streets. The River Churn was diverted to flow just outside the town wall.
