Sir Harold Delf Gillies, C.B.E., F.R.C.S 1882 -1960 Pioneering plastic surgeon during the First World War and, during the Second World War and years following, at Rooksdown House, Park Prewett Hospital, Basingstoke. He led the way in developing new tecniques in reconstructive surgery and his main objective was to restore, physically and psychologically, the war-wounded so that they could continue with their lives during peace time. To that end the residents of Basingstoke also played a significant role in the rehabilitation of the patients back into society. Placed by The Rooksdown Club. Sculptor - Julia Beer
