Hailgate House. This handsome house, with its outstanding Greek Doric porch and pediment, was built in the 1840s and became the home of the Green family who, as solicitors, performed many legal and civic duties for the town. Later it was used as offices of the local authority until 1987 and as a nursing home until 2001.
