The first bridge is known to have been in existence in 1304, The river was previously crossed by means of a ford at Latchford. The second of wood was built in 1364. The third of four stone arches was erected by the first Earl of Derby for the visit of King Henry the Seventh to Knowlsey in 1495. The fourth of one timber arch was opened in 1813. The fifth of three stone arches was opened in 1837. The present bridge of reinforced concrete was completed in 1915. This tablet was erected by the Warrington Society in 1927
