Eyre's Press Near this spot the "Eyres Weekly Journal or Warrington Advertiser", one of the first newspapers in Lancashire was printed in 1756. William Eyres also published important scientific works by Joseph Priestley and "The State of the Prisons in England and Wales" by reformer John Howard, who lodged in Bridge Street whilst Eyres produced his book.
