Bell 5

This building known as Bell 5 is the last oast to be constructed in Bell Field. Erected in 1936, measuring 74ft it is the largest oast in Britain. The building was divided into 5 kilns each equipped with a coke furnace and hair mat (installed by Drake and Fletcher of Maidstone). From 1973 various tenant firms produced hop pellets, which were vacuum packed for sale to brewers. having fallen into disrepair this important Kent building was restored 1997/98.
