Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Newman V.C., O.B.E. Resident of the Chestnuts (formerly on this site) For courage and leadership in the commando raid on St. Nazaire in 1942, he was awarded the Victoria Cross. For his services to industry he was awarded the O.B.E. in 1957
