The Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial stands as a lasting tribute to American service members who lost their lives during World War II. Dedicated in 1956, this site contains the graves of 3,812 American war dead and additionally commemorates 5,127 individuals on the Tablets of the Missing. It is the sole American World War II military cemetery located within the United Kingdom and is managed by the American Battle Monuments Commission. Covering an area of 30.5 acres, it serves as a significant place of remembrance, honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This memorial dates from the era of the Second World War, a global conflict that spanned from 1939 to 1945, involving the Allies against the Axis powers. This period was marked by unprecedented global participation and remains the deadliest conflict in recorded history, resulting in an estimated 60 to 75 million fatalities. The war was characterised by mass casualties due to combat, starvation, disease, and genocidal acts, including the Holocaust. Unresolved tensions from World War I, the rise of fascism, and militarism in various nations contributed to the outbreak of hostilities, beginning with Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939.

Situated between the villages of Coton and Madingley, approximately seven kilometres north-west of Cambridge, England, the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial is readily accessible to visitors. It is located at Madingley Road, Coton, Cambridge CB23 7PH. This poignant site is recognised for its historical significance, holding a Grade II* listing on the National Heritage List for England. Visitors can respectfully explore the grounds and reflect upon the sacrifice commemorated there, which is maintained by the American Battle Monuments Commission.
