Wass Albert

Born in 1908 in what is now Romania, Albert Wass was a nobleman and a writer, known for his novels and poetry. His literary career began in the 1940s, gaining notice within Hungarian literature from Transylvania. He later moved to Germany and then the United States, where he lived until his death in 1998 in Florida.

During the communist era, Wass's books faced a ban in both Hungary and Romania. However, following political changes in 1989, his works reappeared in Hungary, introducing him to a new audience. He remained popular among Hungarian communities in Romania and saw increasing recognition in Hungary. In 2005, a public survey identified him as one of Hungary's most beloved authors, with several of his books achieving high rankings, including "A funtineli boszorkány" and "Kard és kasza".
