Anne Frank
d. 2005

Annelies Marie Frank is remembered for her diary, which brought to light her experiences while hiding during the occupation of the Netherlands. Born in Germany in 1929, her family relocated to Amsterdam in 1934. By 1940, when Germany occupied the Netherlands, her family found themselves unable to leave Amsterdam. Losing her German citizenship in 1941, she became stateless.
In July 1942, as restrictions on Jewish people intensified, the family went into hiding. They concealed themselves in rooms located behind a bookcase in her father Otto Frank's workplace. Her diary documented their daily existence in this secret attic refuge until their apprehension in 1944. Her profound story gained global recognition after her death.
