Donald Colman

Donald Cameron Cunningham, widely known as Donald Colman, made his mark in Scottish football during the early twentieth century. Though his senior playing career started later in life, in his late twenties, he went on to represent Scotland at the age of 33. He is remembered for his significant contributions both as a player and a coach, particularly with Aberdeen.

As a coach, Cunningham is recognised for an innovative idea that would become a staple of football grounds. He introduced the concept of the dugout – a sheltered, sunken area providing space for tactical notes – at Aberdeen's Pittodrie Stadium. This pioneering step meant Pittodrie was the first stadium anywhere to feature such a facility.
